COA LUZON BAGGED THE CHESS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

COA Central Office, Quezon City – Homegrown athletes of COA Region III alongside other COAns from Luzon bagged the championship trophy of the Chess competition in the recently concluded COA Nationwide Sports fest 2019 held at the COA Central Office, Quezon City last May 2 to 8, 2019. Auditor Ebbenezer Batul of Bataan bagged the gold for the Individual Event with a score of 4 1/2, followed by Auditors Chester Mendoza of CAR and Florante Mondez of IV-A for silver and bronze medals, respectively.  With five gold, two silver and two bronze medals, The Luzon Chess Team composed of Auditors Batul, Mendoza, Mondez, Joel Osorio of ROV and Daphne Raiz of ROIII brought home the National Championship Trophy for Chess Team Competition.

The COA Region III Chess Team completed their grandslam during the 2019 Inter Regional Sportsfest for Luzon on March 18-22, 2019 in Lingayen, Pangasinan which paved the way for the selection of Mr. Batul and Ms. Raiz to compete in the National Chess competition.

Director Lynn S.F. Sicangco along with OIC-ARD Chona P. Laxamana, Chess Team Manager Madonna  S. Atencion and Team Coordinator Marilou D. Pulido have been with the Luzon Chess Team during the entire duration of the competition. – Janette Canlas Ama
